How Do I Feed the Good Bacteria in my Gut?

We all have a huge number of friendly bacteria living within and upon our bodies.  We are actually made up of more bacterial cells than human cells.  Yet, for many of us the balance of good bacteria to bad bacteria can often become out of whack, leading to dysbiosis and…. Frustrating symptoms and ailments, illness and disease.  So, how can we nurture the friendly bacteria and reap their health rewards?

Dr Mark Hyman, shares a simple answer in his brilliant book “Young Forever".

Read on to discover why our gut bacteria love these nutrients, and how you can add them to your daily diet for optimal health, vitality and radiance.

Feed them PREBIOTICS!

Prebiotics are fibre rich foods (but not all fibre is prebiotic) that help to keep your internal ecosystem happy and healthy.  To be considered a prebiotic, the fibre must travel through the stomach and small intestine undigested, arriving at the large intestine, where it supports the nourishment and growth of the ‘friendly’ bacteria.  In return, these good guys supply our bodies with essential nutrients that support our brain and mood, help to reduce chronic inflammation, play a role in the formation of cholesterol, help to balance hormones, boost the immune system, improve the digestive system, help manage weight loss... and so much more!

PREBIOTIC FOODS

A simply starting place is to increase the amount and variety of vegetables, some fruits, a few nuts and seeds, some whole grains and beans throughout your week.  Some specific gut loving prebiotic foods to include in your daily diet are garlic, bananas, apples, artichoke, onion, leeks, asparagus and resistant starch.

PREBIOTIC NATURAL FOOD SUPPLEMENTATION

Struggling to include optimal amounts of these foods on a daily basis?    Maybe your digestive fire is not roaring the way it should be.  Are your bowels working effectively?   And by that I mean…one to 3 movements per day, clean, not floating, easy to eliminate, not foul smelling…

A healthy solution for you…Incorporate a natural, real food supplement into your daily routine to help optimise your gut health, enhance your digestion and encourage beautiful bowel motions.

ZINOBIOTIC+

Contributes to the growth of good bacteria and promotes normal bowel functions, reduces spiking in blood sugar after meals and helps you to maintain good cholesterol levels.

Other fibre products on the market generally contain only one or two types of dietary fibre, a strategy which is not enough for your daily fibre requirements.  ZinoBiotic+ contains significant amounts of eight dietary fibres. This approach ensures benefits for the entire colon.

CHANGING HABITS ORGANIC PROBIOTICS – 3 IN 1 BIOTIC BLEND: PROBIOTIC, PREBIOTIC AND POSTBIOTIC

Containing only the best organic ingredients, this Probiotic Blend is real food, naturally fermented, dried and made into a powder.   This unique blend of Prebiotics, Probiotics and Postbiotics – not only replenishes the good bacteria in the gut…but nourishes them too! For those with digestive difficulties, this natural gut loving support is easily absorbed plus it has a great neutral taste for kids and fussy eaters.  Bonus – It assists in a healthy bowel, strong immune system and good digestion!

Feed them POLYPHENOLS

Polyphenols are colourful phytonutrients (disease fighting chemicals) found in plants.

Polyphenols help protect our bodies against oxidative stress brought on by environmental stressors such as pollution, fried food, excessive exercise, smoking, alcohol, stress etc. causing free radicals (unstable molecules  that have the ability to damage DNA and increase the risk of cancer and other diseases) to form in our bodies.

One way to neutralise these dangerous molecules is to increase your consumption of antioxidants by eating more fruit (I love wild blueberries), spray free or organic green vegetables, fibrous foods and one of nature’s richest sources, labelled as liquid gold… extra virgin olive oil.

EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL

Extra virgin olive oil is known as the Mediterranean super food, packed with polyphenols that are present in olive pulp and, following pressing, pass into the oil. This is why the process of making extra virgin olive oil is so important and why you should make sure to only pick extra virgin olive oil that is the real deal, made according to the same basic procedure that has been around for thousands of years: Harvest the olives, wash them, crush them into a paste, separate the solids from the liquid and further separate the water from the oil with no chemicals or solvents used, making sure the highest level of polyphenols is kept intact.

Your beneficial bacteria love the polyphenols!   Consume the best quality you can afford, and in return for your love…those good bugs will protect you.

Feed them specific NUTRIENTS

Although our bodies require a vast array of nutrients, for those who like specifics, Dr Mark Hyman lists zinc, essential omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A and glutamine as important for microbiome health, alongside collagen from bone broths, gelatin or clean sources of collagen itself.

Imagine, if we could support the health of our friendly gut bacteria, bodies and brains, with a simple, beautiful quality, real food, scientifically proven, all natural supplement.  Well guess what…we can!

THE TEST-BASED POLYPHENOL OMEGA BALANCE FOOD SUPPLEMENT

There are also great and relatively unknown benefits of combining polyphenols in extra virgin olive oil with fish oil – a traditional supplement with Omega-3’s. These are essential fatty acids that our bodies can’t produce on their own and mostly found in a range of fatty fish. As most of us aren’t consuming enough of these essential acids, we should aim for a two-pronged approach that incorporates an Omega-3 Polyphenol-rich supplement.

BalanceOil+ is an all-natural Polyphenol Omega Balance food supplement unlike anything else that sits in the market because of its unique combination of olive polyphenols; Omega-3, and Vitamin D3. *  It safely adjusts and maintains EPA + DHA levels and the Omega-6:3 Balance in your body while protecting your cells from oxidation. It contains a premium blend of oils derived from wild-caught small fish and pre-harvest extra virgin olive oil.

Take the BalanceTest first to work out your current Omega-6:3 ratio and then again after 120 days to track your progress. The detailed readings of your fatty acid profile will serve as a benchmark measure for a Health Protocol, a targeted personalised nutrition plan that maps your unique needs according to your body’s Omega-6:3 ratio.
